Apple iPod Touch 5th Generation Review – Full Features and Price Comparison
The fifth generation of Apple iPod Touch has features that are very similar to the ones offered by smartphones. Starting with the 4” Retina display and moving on to the Siri assistant and the 5-megapixel iSight camera, the device no longer fits the definition of a media player, but rather the description of a pocket computer.
Compared to other similar products, Apple iPod Touch has a much more reasonable price. The product is currently sold on Amazon for $301.29, a rather small amount of money considering that it was endowed with pretty much all the features foreseen on an iPhone.
The 4-inch Retina display was designed to make it easier for buyers to view their multimedia files, so the device it’s a lot better than an iPod Nano, Apple’s most famous portable media player. Moreover, the Apple A5 chip that was added to iPod Touch – the same that was used on iPhone 4S – can save battery life due to its adjustable nature. The manufacturer guarantees that Apple iPod Touch can last up to 40 hours during music playback and up to 8 hours during video playback. The fourth generation of portable media player had a 1-hour shorter battery life.
- 4” Retina display
- Improved technical features (Apple A5 Chip, iOS 6)
- Better looking and more practical design
- The price is more accessible than it is for other products
- 5-megapixel iSight camera is still weaker than the ones of other competitive products.
- Weak front and rear-facing cameras (1.2 and 5 megapixels)
- Short battery life
Controlling the iPod is now easier than ever thanks to the iOS 6 system. The program offers various features designed to increase users’ comfort, such as, Siri, Passbook, and Facebook integration. As with other iOS-based devices, buyers can use iTunes Store and App Store to purchase songs, videos and, respectively, apps and games.
There have been great improvements in the design of the media player, as well. iPod Nano Touch is available in many more shades now than it is used to be during its fourth generation. The older version did not include other shades besides black and white, whereas the new models can be Black, White, Pink, Yellow and Blue. The phone case is made out of Anodized Aluminum meaning, the color is more resistant because it is not just painted on the outside, but anodized into the aluminum body.
As for the dimensions, these are still small when compared to other Apple devices, but the fifth generation of iPod Touch is slightly bigger than the fourth one. The media player is 4.9 by 2.3 inches tall and only 0.2” thin.
