The perks of owning a factory unlocked phone mean you will be able to use your handset in any compatible network without paying for a new subscription. It also means your handset is more valuable if you’re planning to resell it, since this perk is worth at least $100. The list of unlocked GSM smartphones available today features products that pertain both to the premium and budget buyer. Samsung GT-S7500 Galaxy Ace Plus, factory unlocked, international version is one of the smartphones that has become appealing thanks to a $60 drop in its price.

In the $200 – $300 price category for unlocked smartphones, Samsung GT-S7500 has a strong competition from a plethora of BlackBerry devices. But since most users are interested in entertainment and app usage from their smartphone, Samsung GT-S7500 becomes a top choice for the buyer on a budget interested in an unlocked phone with app potential.

  • Upgradable OS to Jelly Bean
  • 5MP camera with LED flash, auto focus and video recording
  • Easy to handle it with only one hand
  • 1.300 mAh battery capacity with up to 11 hours of talk time in 2G, and 7 hours and 20 minutes in 3G
  • No secondary camera
  • No default support for DivX/Xvid video
  • Loudspeaker performance is average
  • 3GB of internal storage

With Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus, the producer took note of all caveats reported for the predecessor (Galaxy Ace), like improving processor speed and internal storage, but don’t expect impressive features. Remember this is a budget smartphone we are talking about, with decent features and tech specs, but nothing else that makes it stand-out in a market full of WOW devices.

Samsung GT-S7500 runs on Android OS, v2.3 called Gingerbread but it is upgradable to version 4.1 called Jelly Bean, while the Qualcomm MSM72227A Snapdragon chipset with 1GHZ Cortex-A5 processor ensures decent speeds and app performance. The TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors is by now average, but that doesn’t mean it does perform decently. At 320 x 480 pixels and 3.65 inches, the screen on Galaxy Ace Plus features only a 158 ppi pixel density, 100 less than most of the good quality displays in the market today.

At 4.51 x 2.46 x 0.44 inches and 4.06 oz, the phone reaches 7.2 Mbps speeds on HSDPA and also connects via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

If you are looking for a budget unlocked smartphone with access to apps, then Samsung GT-S7500 is an option you should take into account. At $213.50, down from $279.99 on Amazon, Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus, factory unlocked, is basically a bargain if you can’t afford something more expensive or are not interested in a more business oriented device with similar tech specs, but poor app selection such as BlackBerry.
